SCULPTURE INSTALLATION

Artwork by Brent Comber Originals
Design and Project Management by Carmilla Sumantry
Installed at REN, Seattle, WA

CONCEPT:

Brent Comber was commissioned for a custom art piece to be installed in a new multi-use development. Initial ideation began with the concept of tree roots stretching across the ceiling and congregating into a swirl above the lobby bar.

Modelled in Solidworks, rendered with Keyshot

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT:

This abstract idea was translated to a manufacturable design to be made with bent laminated yellow cedar.

The largest sections were designed as 5 shapes with 2D curves, which would be rearranged at different angles to create three dimensionality.

A custom hardware system was developed to suspend the sculpture from pre-installed eyebolts in the ceiling.

Drawn in Solidworks

A scale model was 3D printed to help communicate the concept to the client and production team.
